Dream Runners Animatic!!

The most exciting part about developing a story is seeing what's been in my head for over a year come to life in a visual format. So without further ado, I present my film's animatic:

The sound is very rough and will definitely change but the number of shots, timing and visuals are pretty solid as of right now. It's really happening!

The DreamScape

Most of the DreamScape is made up of nothingness, just a black void. But travel deep enough in and you'll come across a huge tree with glowing orbs in place of leaves. Each orb is a portal into a dream that is being dreamt at this very moment. The tree is divided into many different sectors designated by color and location. The colors are constantly changing depending on the mood of the dreams taking place.

Each orb of light acts as a portal into the dream, so all one has to do is jump into one. Also, when the person having a dream wakes up, the light for that dream goes out and the portal disappears.

This design will go through some changes in the coming weeks but essentially this is the feel I want for it.

Meet Leo

This post is dedicated to Leopold (Leo for short), the main character of the story. He's kind of a jerk, Leo doesn't really care about anyone but himself.

Being born with a rabbit tail gives him the power to be transported into the DreamScape. Unfortunately for dream runners, this act is illegal because people have the power to mess with others' dreams which isn't cool. So, with the help of his partner (Florence), Leo runs an underground operation to help recover lost memories for clients who hire them. But don't take this as an act of kindness, the only reason Leo partakes in these jobs is so that he can search for any hint or trace of an important memory he has lost himself.

Here are some of the process drawings of Leo's character design.

Dream Runners Introduction

Welcome! This blog is dedicated to my senior film titled "Dream Runners". Here I will post all of the process that my film goes through for the next year.

A little bit about the film:
As of right now, this 3D animated short will act as a trailer to introduce a big story I've been working on for the past year. I plan on making it into a comic and hopefully some day a movie or an animated series. The trailer will focus on introducing a fantasy world called the DreamScape where people with special powers can jump into other people's dreams. We will follow Leo (the main character) through one of his dream runs to retrieve a lost memory for a client until something goes horribly wrong.

A little bit about me:
Hey! I'm Emily Zurl, currently a Junior studying Animation at the Savannah College of Art and Design. For the longest time I wanted to become a 2D animator and when I broadened my horizons to learn 3D animation, I fell in love all over again. Art is my passion! Besides animating, I also enjoy illustration, video games, badminton, crocheting, baseball, cute animals and being silly with my friends. Being excited about starting this project is a complete understatement, so hopefully you'll be just as excited to see it!
